The cargo ship struck by Russia a week ago has sunk

The Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority recalled that the ship had departed Ukraine's Chornomorsk Port carrying a cargo of corn and sustained severe damage as a result of the Russian strike. The authority stated that the attack violated international maritime law and endangered the lives of the crew.

Nine people on board were killed in the attack, while eight others were evacuated during overnight search and rescue operations. Ukrainian Prime Minister Sergii Koretskyi said on the day of the attack that rescue teams had been forced to leave the area because of the risk of a second Russian strike, but firefighting efforts continued. The Ukrainian Navy stated that the Golden Leo was hit by three cruise missiles. The vessel was reported to have carried citizens of India, Syria, and Ukraine.
